Micro-generation, what is it? Micro-generation is a small-scale power generation system designed to provide power for a family home or small business. The Government recently introduced ‘Feed-in-Tariffs’ (FITs), a Clean Energy Cash Back scheme to provide an incentive for people to generate their own electricity. Under this scheme, energy suppliers make regular payments to householders, communities or businesses that generate their own electricity from renewable or low carbon sources, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) panels or wind turbines. The scheme guarantees a minimum payment for all units of electricity generated by the renewable energy source whether you use it or not, there is an additional saving by using your on site generated electricity instead of purchasing it from your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and what you don’t use, you will receive a separate payment for the electricity exported to the national grid. The Feed-in-Tariff payments are index-linked, tax-free and guaranteed for 25 years, you will see a reduction in your electricity bills and start to earn an income from your Feed-in-Tariff as soon as the system is installed and commissioned.
